The "Beast from the East" and Storm Emma last week blanketed many areas in snow and sent temperatures plunging, with ice also a significant concern for airports and flight operators.

Come Monday though, a mild weekend quickly brought a thaw allowing schedules to return to normal, albeit with some limited delays and disruption due to aircraft and crew availability.
Tui and Crystal Ski flights were among those affected, including some services in and out of Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester and Luton airports.
A Tui spokesperson said on Twitter: “Due to adverse weather conditions across some regional airports over a number of days, we are experiencing delays due to aircraft and crew availability.
“We are doing everything we can to minimise the disruption and thank you in advance for your understanding.”
On Monday morning, Tui reported there remained three flights outstanding from the weekend.
Saturday’s 7pm Gran Canaria to Cardiff service has been put back to 8.30pm on Monday, while Sunday’s 8.25am Luton to Lanzarote flight finally departed at 9.20am on Monday. The 1.45pm Lanzarote to Luton return has been delayed until 2.25pm.
Ryanair said it would be operating a full schedule of flights on Monday and there were no weather-related issued reported on easyJet services.
Heathrow and Gatwick both pledged to run a full or “near full” service over the weekend and flights had returned to normal on Monday.
Elsewhere in the south east, London City airport. Stansted, Luton and Southend are all fully operational.
Other UK airports hit hard by the weather, such as Cardiff, Bristol, Newcastle, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, have since restored service.
Edinburgh on Saturday said it was expecting 84% of flights to operate as normal and Glasgow said it had managed to operate 95%.
Cardiff and Bristol both said they were “open and operational” by Saturday.
According to the Met Office, there are currently no freezing conditions forecast likely to affect hubs across the UK and Ireland, although there could be heavy rain, hill snow, patchy fog, frost and ice come the end of the week.
