Stones, 64, had been trading as USA Travel Experts up until his death from a blood infection in December after suffering two heart attacks.
His funeral was held at Portchester Crematorium, near his home in Gosport, Hampshire, on Monday.
The service was attended by Stones’ friends Carol Nelson, a homeworker with Your Holiday Booking, and Kathryn Lord-Ralph, from Shore Travel.
Both Nelson and Lord-Ralph worked with Stones as homeworkers for Instant Holidays, part of Co-operative Travel, in the early 2000s.
“We all met at Instant Holidays and everybody knew Mike,” Nelson told TTG. “He had such great knowledge that we called him the guru of travel. His specialist area was the US and he really loved travel.”
Stones was also a regular contributor to the Travel Gossip website, where Nelson and Lord-Ralph have posted a tribute to him following the funeral.
He leaves behind a wife, Elena.
