There have been reports in recent days that a Christmas tree in the hotel reception could have been linked to the blaze, but the Daily Record reports that Police Scotland refused to be drawn on these reports on Boxing Day.
A spokesperson said: “A cause has not yet been established. Enquiries are ongoing and the investigation is still underway.”
Couple Simon Midgley, 32, and Richard Dyson, 38, from London, died in the popular hotel on Monday, December 18.
Firefighters were still working several days later to “make the area safe” and this is believed to have caused a delay in the investigation into what caused the fire, the Daily Record reports.
Dumbarton MSP Jackie Baillie shed tears as she raised the tragedy during First Minister’s Questions. She asked Nicola Sturgeon to make sure any lessons learned from the investigation into the tragedy be taken on board.
Cameron House said in a statement: “Following the extensive fire within the main building of the hotel on Monday, December 18, Cameron House Hotel, the Leisure Club and the food and beverage areas within the main hotel are now closed.
“We would kindly ask all our guests and customers to bear with us as we work closely with the Fire Service and Police Scotland to establish the extent of the damage and to ascertain when we will be able to reopen.
“Thank you all for your patience and the very many kind messages of support we have received in recent days.”
