The carrier will operate flights to Halifax from April 30, adding the Atlantic Canada destination to its Calgary and Toronto flights from Gatwick. Flights will depart daily from Gatwick at 09.50, arriving at 13.00. The flight from Halifax departs at 22.35, arriving in the UK at 08.20.
WestJet will use a new Boeing 737-8 MAX narrow body aircraft on the route, which is one of the shortest transatlantic crossings. WestJet will offer connections to 10 Canadian cities from Halifax.
“As the carrier with the most transatlantic flights from Halifax, we are thrilled to announce our first foray onto the European mainland,” said Ed Sims, WestJet executive vice-president, commercial.
Sims said the new route was “an indication of our ambitious growth plans as we move towards becoming a global network carrier”.
