Traveleyes was founded by entrepreneur Amar Latif in 2004 after he lost his sight in his late teens.
The company provides tours for visually impaired travellers – the USP being that sighted travellers guide and describe the tours to others in the group and benefit from a 50% discount.
“We’re not looking at agents to promote the product to blind people, but to sighted people,” Latif told TTG following his keynote appearance at the Broadway Travel conference.
“If they have customers who are solo travellers or have perhaps lost a partner, our tours could be great products for them.”
Traveleyes previously worked with Co-op Travel, but stopped when it was taken over by Thomas Cook.
“That worked beautifully,” he said. “But it’s a very specialist product we’d want handled the right way – customers won’t come into their stores or to their websites with a big sign saying, ‘I want to guide a blind person’.
"It’s about identifying potential partners who have the right customers for us.”
