The Wild Swim Warriors took on the challenge on Saturday (23 July) in aid of the organisation, which was set up by one of Holiday Extras’ managing directors who lost his daughter Evie Dove to cancer in March.
Overseen by the Jersey Long-Distance Swimming Club, which officiates and validates record times, the team swam from Jersey to France through the night, landing at dawn.
They then swam back to Jersey where upon landing, discovered they had completed the feat in 15 hours and 51 minutes – becoming joint record-holders for the route. The swim took place under Channel rules in "skins" – just a silicone swim hat, swim suit/trunks and goggles.
Simon Hagger, a trustee of The Evie Dove Foundation and one of the five swimmers, said: "We set up The Evie Dove Foundation earlier this year to honour the memory of my friend and colleague Howard Dove’s daughter Evie, who very sadly lost her battle with cancer at just 13 years old.
"We’ve raised more than £50,000 for King’s College Hospital in the last year, which cared for Evie, but now we’re seeking charitable status for a new foundation in her name which will carry on her legacy by supporting the further education and training for paediatric specialists."
