Specialist tour operators are continuing to “closely monitor” the situation in Greece following the country’s worst wildfires for more than a decade.
The Greek fire authority confirmed on Wednesday morning (July 25) nearly 80 people were now known to have died as fierce flames ravaged the Attica coast.
A state of emergency has been declared in the Attica region as authorities continue search for people trapped by the fires on beaches and in coastal communities.
According to the Red Cross, the bodies of 26 people were found in a villa courtyard in the seaside village of Mati, 18 miles from Athens.
Both Sunvil Holidays and Olympic Holidays told TTG of their shock and dismay as news broke of the devastating fires, and pledged to ensure the trade was aware of the situation.
Sunvil managing director Chris Wright said: "We are currently monitoring the situation in Greece very closely, and we of course have every sympathy for the Greek families affected.
“At the moment. none of our destinations are affected. However, we are in constant contact with our resort offices in case the situation changes.
“The affected areas are ones where the Greeks themselves take holidays, or have their long-standing family holiday homes.”
