Abta is bringing together travel employers with universities, colleges and apprenticeship providers at its Future Talent in the Travel Industry conference in London on July 3.
Among the speakers will be Celeste Jones, head of tourism, hospitality and event management at the University of Hertfordshire, who will be presenting a case study on the new Tui Management Degree Apprenticeship, which starts in September.
The initiative with Tui will be the first degree-level apprenticeship in the UK travel industry, and Jones is keen to encourage other travel firms to introduce similar programmes.
“Our objective is to demonstrate to the delegates at the conference that academia and the industry can work together to design, develop and deliver a bespoke apprenticeship programme,” said Jones.
Jones will also be talking about how to boost the careers of people leaving education and vocational schemes, as well as increasing work placements.
The conference will include a panel discussion on Brexit priorities, plus separate sessions on the expectations of employers and students.
Bradley Escorcio, product manager at Thomas Cook Media and Partnerships and a member of this year’s TTG 30 Under 30 class, will also be talking about his experience of moving from education to employment and his career progression.
The all-day conference, which was formerly known as Abta’s Education Partners event, will be held at Grant Thornton’s office in Finsbury Square, London.
