Late last week, Visit Portugal confirmed that as of 1 July, passengers – regardless of Covid-19 vaccination status – are no longer required to present evidence of a negative pre-departure test result for Covid-19, or of a vaccination certificate or a recent recovery from Covid-19.
Fully vaccinated and boosted travellers heading to the Azores can travel on the basis of a vaccine certificate, such as the NHS Covid Pass.
Those not fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will have to provide evidence of a negative pre-departure test result for Covid-19 dating to up to 72 hours prior to departure (PCR) or 24 hours (antigen), or evidence of a recent recovery from Covid-19.
The Foreign Office has updated its advice to read: "There are no Covid vaccination or testing requirements for entry to mainland Portugal, Madeira and Porto Santo."
The full update from Visit Portugal read: "As of 1 July, 2022, passengers entering national territory are no longer required to present proof of carrying out a test to screen for SARS-CoV-2 infection with a negative result or to present a Covid EU digital certificate or vaccination or recovery certificate issued by third countries, accepted or recognised in Portugal."
