According to a new study by the European Travel Commission (ETC), holidaymakers’ planned budget for the year remains unchanged compared with 2022.
The survey, which polled 6,000 travellers across Europe – 750 of which from the UK, found 37% of respondents will spend between €1,000 - €2,000pp per trip for their next holiday.
It also found most (77%) intend to take a trip during the first six months of 2023, which represents a sharp increase of 16% compared to last year’s figures.
Travellers also show a growing desire to travel outside their own country, with 63% of respondents now favouring international trips within Europe.
Although travellers are keen to maintain their usual holiday spend, the research shows the current financial climate remains a concern, with 23% of Europeans worried about rising costs and 18% saying their personal finances and economic situation are preoccupying.
Luis Araujo, president of ETC, said: "The recent figures show that travel remains a top priority for Europeans in the first half of 2023.
"These trends paint a hopeful picture for the sector this year, and prove its resilience in the face of global economic challenges."
