Set across five interconnected houses, the new 20-room residence, designed by LACASTA Interior Design Studio, in partnership with stylist Carla Kottmann, unfolds through cobbled pathways, quiet courtyards, and terraces scented with jasmine and bougainvillea, inviting guests to settle naturally into the pace and rituals of local life. At the centre of Villa Dorothea sits The Secret, the property’s intimate 25 seat gastrobar extending between a hidden patio and rooftop terrace, a rare feature in this part of Lisbon.

Designed to make guests feel immediately at home, Villa Dorothea has no formal lobby – instead the hotel invites guests to follow footpaths paved with traditional Portuguese stonework, passing ceramic tributes to the area’s fishing heritage and historic tiled plaques that gently connect the house, hotel, and surrounding city.

Shadow, texture and Lisbon’s golden evening light shape its intimate atmosphere, from unhurried mornings in the courtyard to candlelit evenings enjoying music, conversation, and, from its rooftop terrace, sunset views across Lisbon’s skyline.

Speaking about the property’s philosophy, Jacob Perez Toledano, founder of Tradition Signature, said: “We didn’t want to create another luxury hotel designed around protocols and performance. Villa Dorothea was imagined as a living house, a place of lasting encounters, interesting conversation, long breakfasts, intimate gatherings, and emotional connection. A place that feels inhabited rather than staged.”
