Agents know 'nothing beats a Jet2holiday' but a select group of agents found out nothing beats a Jet2holidays fam trip, especially when it features an exclusive social media masterclass.
In May, Jet2holidays hosted an exclusive 24hr Take Off fam trip in Majorca for 19 travel agents who won their places through a competition.
The whistle-stop fam trip trip was based at Fergus Club Mallorca Waterpark and led by Alan Cross, Director of Travel Agent Relationships, and Partnership Development Manager, Helen Millward.
At the forefront of a jam-packed itinerary was an opportunity for the agents to learn top social media tips from Jet2holidays' content creators including photo, video and social experts. The goal was to help agents create content that attracts new clients.
Prior to the fam trip, travel agent Hayley Jordan was creating content as part of her role at Destination in Silsden, Yorkshire but she says it was mostly sharing offers.
Having recently completed a content and marketing apprenticeship, she adds: “This trip came at a perfect time for me to start using my new skills and create some higher quality content to share with our clients."
Darran Smith, Personal Travel Consultant with Not Just Travel, approached the trip with a positive attitude towards social media: “I have been a fan of social media for many years, especially Facebook and more recently TikTok.”
During their 24 hours on the island of Majorca, the agents were kept busy with a content checklist, helping them capture real moments as they happened. At check-in, the agents were all given content kits to support high-quality content creation, including a mini mic, light, magnetic suction phone mount and branded pouch.
Hayley declares: “I would have never thought it was possible to experience so much in such a short time frame, but I didn’t feel rushed at all and enjoyed every moment.”
“The social media masterclass was actually far more detailed than I expected,” says Darran, who explains they were encouraged to use more short-form video, behind-the-scenes content and simple questions that encourage conversation rather than just broadcasting offers.
“One of the biggest takeaways was that people engage far more with personal stories and experiences than they do with traditional sales posts. The advice was to spend less time talking about prices and deals, and more time showing people why a destination is special, what surprised you, what you loved, and how you made it feel.”
Authenticity was also Hayley’s most important takeaway: “We agreed that personal content highlighting what you are doing, showing your face and speaking on videos, and being consistent builds trust with your viewers, and for your business.”
Darran was also enthused by a more technical aspect: ‘Spending time with the camera crew was very inspiring. We discussed the use of a DJI Osmo Pocket 4 video camera. I had been thinking about buying one, but wasn’t sure if I needed one, having always used my iPhone. The videographer explained the difference in quality and the variety of shots I could take, and how it fits in your pocket. So I bought one of my return – watch this space.”
As part of the itinerary, the agents also visited Nikki Beach Club Mallorca, a sunset cruise on Rafael Verdura from the Port of Palma, and a tapas dinner at Dome in Palma.
The host hotel, Fergus Club Mallorca Waterpark, was praised by Hayley and Darran for its family-friendly atmosphere and spotless facilities.
“Fergus Club Majorca was a fabulous family hotel. My room was plenty big enough for four people, even though I had it all to myself,” says Darran. “The all-inclusive food on offer was exceptional and all hotel staff were friendly, knowledgeable and more than willing to help.”
Hayley added: “My favourite excursion was the sunset cruise, although we didn’t see the sunset and rain and thunder, it was such a fun experience with everyone.”
Since returning home, both Hayley and Darran have put their social media knowledge to the test. Hayley says: “I have been sharing content I wouldn’t have usually filmed. I created a room tour video with a voiceover, and a ‘travel with me’ video using short clips of my whole time in Majorca.”
Even though she describes herself as a confident person, she admits at first it wasn't easy to put herself on camera: “I have definitely struggled to speak on videos without feeling awkward,” she reveals. “But I think it helped being surrounded by people all doing the same thing. The biggest thing is just to be yourself and not feel you need to act like a TV host, because people do want to see authentic content and real reactions.”
“My content has performed so much better since putting myself on the page and showing my genuine reactions and excitement of what I am getting up to. I have noticed an increase in engagement mainly on our Tiktok page but across our other platforms too and an increase in followers,” she continues.
Darran has also had success with more regular posting, which has helped boost his number of followers. He’s also been inspired, as a direct result of the trip, to create a video series called ‘What’s Your Dream Holiday?’.
“The concept was born from discussions about creating content that starts conversations. Rather than simply promoting destinations, I wanted to encourage people to share their bucket-list trips and travel dreams. It gives us an opportunity to learn more about our audience whilst creating engaging content that people genuinely enjoy interacting with.”
As well as picking up plenty of content creation tips, Darran says the trip had another benefit: “It definitely gave me the confidence to recommend the Jet2holidays product to clients. There’s no substitute for experiencing the flights, hotels and overall customer journey first-hand.”
He adds: “It’s also hugely significant that Jet2holidays continues to invest so heavily in supporting independent travel agents. This trip demonstrated a genuine commitment to helping us grow our businesses, and that investment will ultimately benefit clients because we are so much better informed and confident in our recommendations.”
