The operator said 72% of the ship’s 2027 solo capacity has already been sold through the trade, while one of the first June 2027 departures has sold out more than a year ahead of launch.
George Eliot is set to become the world’s first fully solo-exclusive river cruise ship when it enters service in mid-2027. The ship will operate a full season of solo-only sailings across the Rhine, Moselle and Danube, including shoulder-season departures that Riviera believes offer agents additional opportunities in a "growing sector".
Unlike traditional river cruise vessels, George Eliot is being specifically configured for solo travellers. Every guest will have sole occupancy of a double cabin, with no single supplement charged on any departure.
The operator has also reduced overall guest numbers to create a more spacious onboard environment, while the experience itself has been designed to encourage social interaction through shared excursions.
Riviera said the product addresses some of the biggest barriers facing solo travellers, particularly supplement charges and concerns around travelling alone, while still allowing guests to maintain their independence.
Vicky Billing, Director of Trade, Partnerships and Loyalty for the UK and Ireland, said: "Since announcing George Eliot as a fully solo-exclusive ship, we’ve seen consistently strong feedback from agents with clear demand from their customers looking for a dedicated solo experience on the rivers."
"With peak departures already selling quickly and a full season of sailings available, including shoulder-season dates, this gives our agent partners a really strong opportunity to drive early bookings and offer something that genuinely stands out in the market."
Riviera added solo bookings across its wider business had increased by 34% year-on-year, while bookings made through agent partners have risen by 51%.
