What’s your typical week?
I start in Bromley, working with our teams on future developments and campaigns. Then it’s agent meetings and visits for the rest of the week. Every week is different – a couple of weeks ago it was our agents’ events in Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham; last week it was a few hundred miles between the south coast and North Wales.
How big is your sales team?
Alongside Kirsty Bachelor and Simon Garrido we cover all the key head offices, regional contacts and agency branches, supported by Orla Kern and Joanna Reeves-Martin in Bromley; working the catchment areas for our bases at Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds Bradford and Luton. We also work closely with our airlines sales team, Dawn Hardwick, Bob Gysin and Pablo Edmundson.
What’s in your car?
My sat nav is in the glove compartment, the back seat has destination guides and brochures, and the boot has pop-up banners. Plus, more often than not, chocolate hampers for agent rewards.
What’s your favourite festive tune?
Do They Know It’s Christmas? It reminds me of a Gavin & Stacey where James Corden sings this on the way to Wales – I sing it on the way to anywhere!
What Christmas snack keeps you going on the road?
Are salt and vinegar Squares Christmassy? If not, then it must be Pfeffernusse, a spiced Christmas cookie. Nick, our insight manager in Bromley, brought some in and now it’s my Christmas snack of choice.
Has Lapland been selling well?
Our Santa trips are now pretty much sold, so we’re promoting next year. We have some availability on our new Lapland safaris in January and February – great hotels, activities included in a fantastic location and a chance to see the Northern Lights.
Who would be your ideal driving companion?
James Martin – he could tell me how to cook the perfect Christmas dinner.
What’s your favourite festive tipple?
I love hot spicy cider. It’s our team Christmas dinner next week and I will be encouraging the rest of the team to try it.
What’s the best question an agent has ever asked you?
“Are the Northern Lights included?” Unfortunately that’s out of our hands – I saw them when I went though.
What’s the most lost you have ever got?
My old sat nav sent me to the middle of a field for an agency visit.
What’s special about the Santa trips?
Everything, from Hal the husky and Rudi the reindeer meeting everyone at the dedicated check-in and the flights with song sheets included to the first sight of a truly magical landscape. Then there’s the reindeers, huskies and snowmobiles and of course the gala dinner with Santa himself.
What key messages do you try to convey in an agent visit?
We have a £59 deposit, an exceptional range of holidays and ultimate duration flexibility with our scheduled flights – it’s the holiday the customer wants, not what we want to sell.
What’s your advice for agents who don’t currently sell your product?
Give us a call or go on to our agent website, monarchagents.co.uk. We are asking all agents to say to their clients, “let me just check Monarch”. We think they might like our product and our prices.
