According to a poll conducted before the organisation’s annual conference, 53% of those surveyed don’t know whether they will vote to leave or stay in the EU.
Only 10% have decided to vote in favour of a Brexit, while 37% want the UK to remain.
The findings were revealed in a session on political, economic and legislative change, which featured Stephen D’Alfonso, head of public affairs at Abta, and Joanna Kolatsis, partner and head of aviation and travel at law firm Hill Dickinson.
During a Q&A session with Advantage’s Colin O’Neill, Kolatsis questioned what might happen to certain UK laws that originated in the EU and which have proved popular with holidaymakers.
“Think about consumers and what they’re currently used to. I don’t think you can suddenly turn around and say ’you cant have compensation for flight delays… and you won’t get financial protection for package travel holidays,” she said.
D’Alfonso said that while regulation was important to consider it will probably not be what people are thinking about when they cast their vote.
“You can look at it as rationally as you like from a business perspective, I don’t think deregulation is an objective of those that are going to vote leave…” he said.
