Airlines for Europe (A4E), which represents leading European carriers, said that there were more than 400 cancellations on the first day of the industrial action on March 6, as well as “severe delays and detours”.
There are expected to be even more cancellations and delays on today as ATC workers across other regions of France take part in the industrial action, which is due to continue until Friday, March 10.
Ryanair had to cancel more than 40 flights on Monday but this has doubled to more than 80 services on Tuesday.
“We sincerely apologise to all customers whose travel plans are being disrupted by these unjustified strikes, who have been contacted by email and SMS text message and advised of their options,” said the airline.
“The strike may also affect flights overflying France and we expect some flight delays and possible further cancellations.”
Ryanair has urged people to sign A4E’s online petition, Keep Europe’s Skies Open, which calls for the end to “repeated disruption from ATC unions”.
