The daily flight from Heathrow will join the airline’s West Coast offering which includes Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego from May 4 and will be operated by a brand new Boeing 787-9.
The area around San Jose is known as a software power house and is home to household tech giants including Adobe, Apple, Cisco, eBay, Google and Intel.
BA also hopes to attract customers from the thousands of tech start-up companies and nearby Stanford University and will use an aircraft fitted with its new First cabin.
BA’s head of global sales Stephen Humphreys said: “We’re sure this new service will prove just the business for Californian-based companies looking to expand into Europe and will strengthen London’s strong commercial ties with the West Coast.
"It also offers a brilliant starting point for visitors to nearby Carmel and Monterey on the rugged central coast along Highway One, and easy access to the unrivalled splendour of Yosemite National Park.”
Kim Becker, Mineta San Jose International airport’s director of aviation, added that London was the number one requested international destination by its passengers.
BA’s 787-9 Dreamliner will offer eight seats in its new First cabin, 42 in Club World, 39 in World Traveller Plus and another 127 in World Traveller.
Journey time is expected to be 10 hours 50 minutes. Promotional economy fares start at £599 return. World Traveller Plus leads in at £899, Club World at £2,900 and First at £3,675.
