Research from cruise firm Cunard found that around 20% of UK holidaymakers want to travel to at least three countries during a single trip, while 6% wish to visit a minimum of five countries within the same holiday.
Consumers also want to spend more time away from home with 67% wanting to travel for two or more weeks per trip in 2017, which was higher than the average of one and a half weeks per holiday last year.
The survey also suggests there will be an increase in popularity for Nordic and Asian destinations this year, although the top three countries on consumers’ wishlists are the US, Australia and New Zealand.
A Cunard spokesperson said: “The beauty of a cruise is that for those wanting to visit as many cities in one trip, they have the luxury of having a different country on their doorstep almost every day.
“Each of our three ships will shortly depart on their annual round-the-world cruises, which is the perfect way for multi-destination travellers to experience all the wonders of the world; from Namibia to Perth and all those countries in between.”
