The explosion caused by the car which was “packed with explosives” occurred on Sunday night in the capital’s transit hub of Kizilay.
At least two of those killed in the attack were believed to be behind it, although no group has come forward to take responsibility for it.
It is the second car-bombing in Ankara since the start of the year. An attack in February left 28 dead and 61 injured.
Turkish president Recep Erdogan vowed to continue the fight against terrorism, adding: "Our people should not worry, the struggle against terrorism will for certain end in success and terrorism will be brought to its knees."
The Foreign Office advises Brits against travelling to the area of the explosion while taking advice from local authorities.
However, it continues to warn: “Although the Turkish authorities have successfully disrupted attack planning in the recent past, the threat from terrorism remains high.
“Terrorist groups, including Kurdish groups, Daesh (formerly referred to as Isil) and far left organisations, continue to plan and carry out attacks. As a result, further attacks are likely.”
