Costa Group chief executive Michael Thamm said each of the new ships, which are being built by Fincantieri, will have a passenger capacity of 4,200 when they join the Costa Asia brand in 2019 and 2020.
The new ships join Costa’s order list that already has four for the German Aida Cruises brand and two for Costa Cruises.
Once the new ships are launched, the total capacity of the Costa Group fleet will be 110,000 berths.
Thamm said: “We are happy to continue our long-standing strategic partnership with the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.
“In addition this new agreement will allow us to continue significantly build the Chinese cruise market, which will become the second largest in the world at the end of the decade.”
The Costa Group was the first cruise company to enter the Chinese market back in 2006.
Three Costa ships are currently deployed in Asia year-round: Costa Atlantica, Costa Victoria and Costa Serena. A fourth ship, Costa Fortuna, will join them in April 2016.
