He took up the new position at the start of this month, taking the size of the company to 54 employees.
JTA Travel was established 43 years ago as a flight consolidator but now has a significant tour operating business, though it has remained trade-only. In 2013, JTA launched a cruise product, Needacruise.co.uk.
Castanheira said: “I’m looking forward to further building the JTA brand in the trade and make agents aware of exactly what we can do.”
“Being 100% trade is a rare thing nowadays, and we’ve got lots of USPs to shout about,” he added.
Castanheira was previously business development manager at Wendy Wu Tours, and prior to that, at Prestige Holidays. He was also assistant manager for Portugalia Airlines in the UK (now part of TAP) for four years.
