The line currently operates four ships and the new orders will nearly double the fleet from four vessels to seven by 2023.
Each ship will have its own unique name, design plan and itinerary, which are all currently in development.
All three ships will also be powered by clean-burning liquefied natural gas with approximately 1,250 guest staterooms - slightly larger in size than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.
Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said: “We decided two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level with immersive Disney storytelling, world-class family entertainment, and imaginative innovations.
“By the time all three new ships are sailing, we’ll have nearly doubled the size of our existing fleet.”
The news was announced by Chapek at the D23 Expo in Anaheim and all three ships will be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.
The line’s current vessels sail from San Diego, Miami, Port Canaveral, New York, San Juan and Galveston.
