It warns that people making fraudulent claims may face legal proceedings either here in the UK or overseas.
The advice is already live for Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria and Turkey but has now been extended to Greece.
It is being run in conjunction with Abta’s Stop Sickness Scams campaign which is also being backed by Abta members including Thomas Cook, Tui, Monarch and Jet2holidays.
Specifically it warns travellers to:
- Report claims management touts in resorts to their hotel manager and/or tour operators.
- Warn other holidaymakers if they see touts about and let their friends and family know about the problem.
- If they are cold-called and encouraged to make a fake or exaggerated claim, report the company to the Claims Management Regulator.
- If they are aware of a fake claim, report it to Action Fraud
- If they believe they have experienced food poisoning as a result of eating in your hotel, contact their hotel or tour operator immediately in resort. Claims companies will take a hefty slice of any compensation awarded.
- If they aren’t satisfied with the response they get from their travel company, they can pursue their case through Abta’s independent Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme or through the small claims court.
