The West Sussex airport currently finds itself in second position after the Airport Commission ruled in favour of its arch rival.
Despite the setback chief executive Stewart Wingate told The Sunday Telegraph that the airport will not abandon its plans.
“I don’t think it can possibly be the end of it,” he said. “I think the Government decision is an important milestone, but are we going to lose our appetite and build a second runway? Our belief is, Heathrow is undeliverable. This is going to be a multi-year event.”
The government is expected to formalise its opinion on were to build extra capacity in the south-east.
