Figures from the German Federal Statistical Office have revealed 80.8 million overnights - growth of 1.4% over 2015.
Europe remained the country’s largest source market, with a share of 73.7% (up 1.9%). Visitors from Britain rose 1%.
Iris Gleicke, German federal government commissioner for tourism and parliamentary state secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy said: “Destination Germany is enjoying continued popularity with international visitors. We have achieved record highs for incoming tourism, which reflects the strength of our industry”.
