The country accounted for 17% of all searches. It was followed closely by the Canaries, Balearics and Spain, which overall accounted for 36% of all searches.
Surprisingly Turkey ranked fifth most popular, despite the country suffering a significant slump in tourism in 2016 following political turmoil and terrorism incidents this year.
Also defying predictions about a potential fall in tourism was the US, which ranked sixth in the most searched summer 2017 destinations, suggesting that consumers may be less affected by currency concerns than initially feared.
Despite this, Cook noted that all-inclusives were proving more popular, adding that the results “highlighted the trend we identified in October, that more holidaymakers will opt for an all-inclusive holiday in 2017, in particular for destinations such as Greece and the Canaries, which haven’t traditionally been recognised for their all-inclusive offering.”
The operator has subsequently increased its all-inclusive offering by 20% for summer 2017 (excluding Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia).
