The storm is now heading out to sea where wind speeds are still hitting up to 75 miles per hour. Experts predict it won’t make landfall again.
North Carolina was the worst-hit state in the US, with 1,000 people rescued and another 3,000 still living in shelters.
A total of 17 people were also killed in the US by the storm. However, this number is dwarfed by the up to 900 people killed in Haiti.
The storm also destroyed thousands of homes and left up to 60,000 Haitians homeless. Officials are now bracing themselves for a cholera outbreak in the country.
