The event, for which TTG is the official media partner, has been organised by former staff member Trevor Davis to “help celebrate” the tour operating giant, which failed in 1991. It will take place on October 8 at Club Langley in Beckenham, with ILG’s legendary founder Harry Goodman (pictured above) in attendance.
Davis, who is now managing director of marketing firm 3FOR, joined the company as a 16-year-old office junior in 1976 and worked in a number of positions at the business, including as an overseas rep and sales director, until its demise.
Other well-known travel names, including ex-Tui boss Peter Long, Celebrity Cruises managing director Jo Rzymowska and G Adventures managing director Brian Young, also worked for the operator.
“For many years ILG was ‘the’ tour operator competing against Thomson,” Davis told TTG. “It paved the way for travel businesses today.”
The event will include live entertainment, a hot buffet and a raffle and auction with proceeds going to Just a Drop.
