The itinerary, which can be booked as a separate trail or as part of the operator’s Shan State Adventure, sees guests embark on a 17-mile journey through the country’s “little-known” state from Minepyo to Hti Ne.
As part of the tour trekkers will be able to take part in a homestay in the Pa’O people’s village of Hti Ne, where they can try a traditional meal.
Working with local guides from a government-run community-tourism scheme, the trip offers travellers the chance to experience village life and encourages residents to develop their tourism and business skills, with funds generated then invested back into the community.
Starting from £2,095pp, based on two sharing, the full Shan State Adventure begins in the former colonial hill station of Pyin Oo Lwin.
Highlights include a train journey along the old Burma Railway, a day at the Green Hill elephant camp and a mountain cycle ride to Nyaung Shwe.
