The minister also praised the efforts of his UK-based team and key tourism partners for facilitating a growth in visiting Brits in 2017 – the nation saw a 7% increase on last year’s 206,470 tourists.
“You our partners have been the essence of our being, you have allowed us to grow in the UK market in the way that we have indicated. We feel committed to continue that growth because we feel you, as the wind beneath our wings, will continue to sell Jamaica effectively and market us in the way we could never do if we even tried.”
The Gala evening also recognised some of Jamaica’s top performing agents and operators with awards going to those with the largest growth in room nights. Barrhead Travel won top UK travel agent, Sackville Travel was top UK operator, Scott Dunn took the award for top luxury operator and Expedia was the named as top UK online tour operator.
