The final figure of 210,103 for the calendar year 2016 does not include cruise visitors, only those holidaymakers who stayed overnight.
The total represents a 4.34% increase on the 2015 figure of 201,364 visitors.
This year’s figures look set to increase further following the confirmation of additional flights from British Airways and Thomson.
BA adds a fourth weekly flight to Kingston from April, while Thomson Airways will add approximately 7,000 extra seats to Montego Bay this summer from Glasgow and Stansted airports.
The island is banking on gastronomy, sports and entertainment, health and wellness to attract more visitors.
Officials believe the push towards food tourism was one of the driving forces behind the increase in visitors to Jamaica in 2016, with efforts to create offerings beyond the nation’s most well known dish of jerk chicken.
