Noel Josephides will travel to the Peloponnese this summer to take part in a 100m race as part of the revival of the games.
“The site is fabulous. You get to run in the 100m. You run in a tunic and you run barefoot,” Josephides told TTG.
Despite injuring his shoulder in a fall that required an operation in his first appearance four years ago, Josephides is looking forward to returning to the games.
“It’s such good fun. And the evening before there’s a lot of celebrations, mirroring what they used to do in ancient Greek times.”
The event is a revival of one of the ancient Panhellenic Games, which also featured the Olympics.
Josephides said Greece needed to do more to tap into the lucrative heritage travel market.
“It is a great shame that the Greeks do not realise how much money they’ve got in the bank in the form of their heritage,” he said.
“We have a perpetual problem with sites being closed at weekends and an antiquities department that does not understand what they have to do now to make these sites an attraction.”
