Several GoFundMe pages, which ask the public to contribute money to a certain cause, have been set-up to try and gather cash following the demise of the OTA last week.
At the time of the company’s collapse, administrators confirmed the group had 27,000 customers in resort with a further 110,000 booked to travel.
Lowcosttravelgroup had placed a bond with Spanish regulators but this only totalled £1.09 million, meaning consumers would be left with a minimal compensation.
Group boss Paul Evans quit the CAA’s Atol scheme in 2013, moving his package holiday business to Majorca.
One customer, Beverley Smith, created a page to raise money for her sister and brother-in-law who had been due to honeymoon with their sons later this month.
Smith wrote on the page: “After paying £3,700 in good faith the company have effectively stolen all the money and they have lost their honeymoon and my two nephews’ holiday and all the money is gone with no chance of a refund. I just want to give them some form of honeymoon.”
Another client, Steph Leese started her page after the Lanzarote getaway she had saved two years for was lost.
Leese posted on the site: “We have lost a holiday we saved two years for. The flights are safe but the hotel is not paid for. Any offers to help [are] gratefully received to get my family on that well-earned holiday.”
