Almost three-quarters (74%) of respondents across all markets reported their primary motivation for travel was to relax. In the UK, 71% said they travelled for this reason, 86% in Portugal, 81% in Germany and 80% in Italy.
The UK percentage is 65.05% higher than registered in a previous study carried out after the first pandemic summer in September 2020, where the figure reached only 5.95%.
Socialising is reported internationally as the second motivational factor in travel at 49%. Gender differences are marked only in two categories in the UK: more women than men report travelling for wellness and self-care (74% against 68%) while booking travel specifically for sporting reasons motivates 16% of male respondents compared to just 10% of their female peers.
The data from online travel agent Opodo also found 22% of Londoners travel to find love, compared to just 5% from the south-west.
