The man, who had a boarding pass and had cleared security, jumped out of a disconnected jet bridge after he missed boarding his flight to Gran Canaria.
A video posted onto Facebook shows him jumping from 10 foot, before then shouldering his two bags and running towards his plane. According to the Associated Press agency, he broke through fire escape doors to get to the tunnel.
The man could now face a fine of up to £38,400 under airport security laws, the BBC said.
A worker at Madrid airport posted the mobile phone footage to Facebook, with the comment: “We’re talking level 4 security! You can’t even be safe with that…”
The man, who is thought to be from Bolivia, was allowed to board the flight, but was arrested when it landed.
A spokesperson for Ryanair, whose planes are seen in the video and which is thought the man was running towards, said it was a matter for airport security.
