US radio host Elvis Duran will christen NCL’s sixteenth vessel at Seattle’s Pier 66 on May 30 alongside Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ president and chief executive Frank Del Rio and Norwegian Cruise Line president and chief executive Andy Stuart.
Bliss will sail weekly seven-day Alaska cruises during its inaugural summer season and, from November 2018, will move to the Caribbean to sail seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises out of Port Miami.
NCL said Duran, who helms weekday morning programme, Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, mirrored “the fun, exciting and original personality that Norwegian Bliss so wholly embodies”.
He follows in the footsteps of past NCL godmothers and godfathers including rapper Pitbull, actress Kim Cattrall and comedian Rosie O’Donnell in taking up the honour.
Andy Stuart, Norwegian Cruise Line president and chief executive, said: “Elvis Duran epitomises the high-energy and liveliness that the ship represents and we’re very excited to have him join the family as godfather to Norwegian Bliss.
“Norwegian Cruise Line’s mission is first and foremost to provide guests with a one-of-a-kind unforgettable vacation and continue to develop and offer guests the latest innovative experiences.
“As one of the most beloved radio hosts in history, Elvis’s commitment to entertainment and bringing laughter and joy to his listeners each day is exactly why we believe he is the perfect fit to represent Norwegian Bliss.”
Duran added: “This incredible ship and all the innovative activities onboard, from the race track to Broadway shows, perfectly reflect the energy and excitement of our morning show and we are looking forward to bringing our loyal listeners along for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. I can’t wait until she arrives next May.”
