Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV) and Cosmos Tours each stepped in to provide concession deals to consumers booked to sail with ALG’s Swan Hellenic and Voyages of Discovery brands days after the company’s failure.
ALG had 400 passengers overseas at the time and 7,000 forward bookings.
Neil Herbert, head of sales at Fred Olsen, said the firm had been “encouraged” by the number of ALG-affected customers who had enquired about booking after it offered them a 25% discount on any 2017, 2018 or 2019 voyage currently on sale. He said “several hundred” had already chosen to book an alternative holiday with Fred Olsen.
“We are sure that we will attract many more bookings,” Herbert added.
Giles Hawke, chief executive Cosmos Tours, said the operator had received “a number” of enquiries from ALG cruise passengers since it offered a customer loyalty discount of £50pp to travellers booked to sail with ALG. The offer applies to any of its three brands – Cosmos Tours & Cruises, Avalon Waterways and Archers Holidays.
“We are looking into alternative cruises, and the combination of the offer in peaks means we’ve got some great deals,” Hawke said.
Mike Hall, head of marketing at CMV, said the line had seen a “successful week” of trading, and cited its discount of up to 10% on current saver fares as a “strong contributing factor”.
