New research has highlighted the negative impact Trump’s presidency has had on his business empire, with reports suggesting average room rates have fallen by up to 63% at all but one of his 13 hotels.
The worst hit hotel is thought to be Trump Las Vegas according to The Telegraph. Analysis by FairFX showed that a standard double room at the hotel in January 2017 prior to Trump’s inauguration was priced at £637 - one year on, a two-night break in January is on offer for £237.
Meanwhile at Trump Turnberry in Scotland reports suggest the average cost of a two-night stay has slipped 57%, from £498 to £215.
The only hotel which has seen a rise in rates is Trump Doonbeg in Ireland, where prices increased from £334 to £357.
FairFX has reportedly cautioned that other factors should also be taken into consideration, but it acknowledged that the falling prices were suggestive of a widespread fall in demand.
Ian Strafford-Taylor, FairFX chief executive said: “One year after Trump’s inauguration, prices for a weekend in one of his hotels have for the most part decreased.
“While big events, like the inauguration in Washington, will usually cause prices to rise in that city for a particular weekend, the decreases in other places suggest that it doesn’t necessarily pay to be president.”
