Chief operating officer Michael Hickey, who has been with the carrier for 30 years, was responsible for scheduling pilots’ rosters. He is thought to have resigned in the fall-out from the fiasco stemming from a shortage of pilots.
However, Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary told the Daily Telegraph that Hickey would continue “in an advisory role” until the end of the month, saying that he would be “a hard act to replace”.
The budget carrier was criticised by the CAA for not initially informing customers correctly about European Union rules over being rerouted on other carriers, as well as how they should be compensated if their flight has been cancelled. Ryanair has now changed its advice to customers following the CAA’s intervention.
Ryanair said it had hired 210 new pilots in the last 12 weeks, among 822 that have joined this year.
