Nats computer systems failed on Monday (28 August) amid the busy bank holiday getaway, temporarily grounding all UK flights. The issue was resolved later in the day, but the knock-on effect of the disruption is ongoing a full week later.
Ryanair said on Monday (4 September) it was forced to cancel more than 350 flights over 28-29 August, impacting 63,000 passengers.
In total, Ryanair operated more than 103,000 flights in August, carrying 18.9 million passengers – up 11% from 16.9 million a year earlier – on a load factor of 96%, level with August 2022.
Budget rival Wizz Air carried 6.1 million passengers in August – up 23.9% on August 2022 – at a load factor of 94.1%, up from 90.5% a year earlier. Citing data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, Wizz recorded a flight completion rate of 99.6% in August.
