Sandals Resorts is bringing a taste of the Caribbean to the UK, as it chooses London to open its first retail store in the world.
The new Kensington store, which Sandals believes will be the first fully-serviced UK retail store by a resort operator, is being kitted out at a cost of £1 million.
It will be staffed by around 15 sales consultants and wedding specialists, including some relocating from its nearby head office and some new recruits.
UK and Europe managing director Karl Thompson said the layout and decor will recreate the look and feel of the hotelier’s resorts as much as possible.
“The awareness of our brand is high, but always the challenge is to educate the consumer on exactly what our offering is. We hope the store will give people a more quality understanding of what we do,” he said.
Customers will enter the store by crossing a wooden bridge over a digital “lazy river”, and enter a research zone with individual iPads where they can watch videos.
The rest of the store is divided into four key zones for Sandals, Beaches, Weddings and Island Routes.
