The Tourism Authority of Thailand is asking travel agents to nominate their favourite eco-projects as part of the Thailand Green Excellence Awards.
The awards, which are run on behalf of TAT in the UK by Wanderlust Travel Media, recognise organisations and individuals that have made a valuable contribution to protecting Thailand’s iconic heritage, wildlife and nature.
The five categories include two new categories for 2016:
- Nature, marine & heritage
- Community-based tourism
- Animal welfare
- Outstanding Contribution to Green Tourism in Thailand (new)
- Best Media Coverage of Green Tourism in Thailand (new)
Last year’s winners included forest camp Elephant Hills, which claimed the Animal Welfare award for its ethical elephant encounters; Trash Hero which won the Nature, Marine & Heritage category for its recycling initiative; and Local Alike which won in the Community-based Tourism category for its cultural-immersion tours.
Travel agents are encouraged to nominate hotels and resorts, attractions, projects, tour companies, tour guides, charity leaders and any other companies, organisations or individuals they think makes a significant impact on green tourism in Thailand.
Chair of judges for the awards and co-founder of Wanderlust travel magazine Lyn Hughes said: “Travel agents and the trade have a huge responsibility when it comes to promoting sustainable tourism. They have choices to make about the types of tours they sell and the organisations they support. By getting behind the awards, and nominating businesses, projects or individuals, they are in-directly contributing to the communities and the environment which need protecting.”
Agents and other travel industry professionals can nominate at: www.greenthailand.co.uk/green-excellence-awards
Nominations close on August 31, 2016.
There is also a chance to win a holiday for two to Thailand, visiting some of the previous award winner’s projects.
