The carrier launches the Cape Town flights on December 15 this year, hoping that the weak South African rand will attract customers. The announcement that it will now continue the flights the following winter is a sign that sales have been good.
Flights from Birmingham to Cape Verde will run from November 2 2017 until April 26 2018, with fares from £139 one way.
Thomas Cook Airlines’ aviation director James Burrows said: “We’re so excited to carry on our growth at Birmingham. With the start of Comiso and Lesbos next summer and following our £100 million cabin upgrade programme and launch of our pre-order duty free service, Airshoppen, we’re offering even more choice than ever for winter sun from Birmingham.”
Also confirmed are year-round flights to Cape Verde from both Manchester and Gatwick, which previously had been seasonal. These have previously been operated by partner carriers, but will now be on Thomas Cook Airlines’ Airbus A321s, featuring upgraded cabins and James Martin meals.
