Eight thieves made their way onto the vessel, which left the city of Iquitos on Wednesday (July 13) with around 30 tourists on board.
According to BBC News, the boat anchored in the middle of the river for a shore excursion when the gang boarded and threatened crew and tourists with “small calibre weapons”.
They proceeded to steal an estimated £15,000 worth of goods.
During the incident the ship’s captain was hit with a pistol handle but was not believed to be seriously injured.
No other members of the crew or tourists, most of whom were American, were hurt during the robbery.
Police arrived soon after and evacuated passengers.
