Travel with IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) aims to highlight the stigma of “invisible disabilities” that people face when travelling.
The operation comes following the charity’s successful campaign which saw UK supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco and Waitrose swapping their disabled toilet signs for accessible signage.
The campaign urges people to act by sending an email to the bosses of UK airports, rail stations and service stations to ask for help in the adoption of additional accessible toilet signage, highlighting that not every disability is visible.
According to a new survey led by Takeda UK, and taken by more than 1,770 people with inflammatory bowel disease, 70% are concerned about toilet facilities when travelling and 28% have cancelled or changed a trip abroad because of an IBD-related issue.
Since launching, the campaign has received more than 21,000 emails and also has the support of British Olympian Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, who has Colitis.
