Forty-two-year-old Aundrea Bannatyne (pictured), a cluster manager for Cook’s Bangor and Newtownards stores in Northern Ireland, was diagnosed with what was thought to be inoperable pancreatic cancer.
An appeal helped to raise £100,000 for treatment to help prolong her life. But a ground-breaking operation at Hallwang Private Oncology Clinic in Germany is now available which could potentially save her life.
The treatment, which is not offered in the UK, will cost £200,000. With only months to live, Aundrea needs the operation as soon as possible.
In a cruel twist, Aundrea herself has spent years campaigning to raise funds and awareness of cancer, after her two-year-old son was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour eight years ago.
She had to learn how to feed her son through a tube in his nose, clean his central line, which administered chemotherapy directly into his chest, and inject him daily in his leg.
Aundrea’s friends and family have launched a new appeal in a desperate bid to raise the necessary funds.
Close friend Martin Maclaren, regional sales manager for Beachcomber, said he wanted to thank everyone who had already helped with the cause. “No matter how big or small, any donation is much appreciated.”
