Two bullets left holes in the circular white tanks, according to reports in the Las Vegas press. The tanks are around 1,100 feet from the concert site where Stephen Paddock killed 58 people and around 500 others. One of the bullets is reported to have penetrated a tank, but did not cause a fire or explosion.
The fuel reserves are near the McCarran International Airport’s private jet terminal, which is overlooked by the Mandalay Bay hotel where Paddock carried out his killings. He broke another window in the hotel facing the airport to shoot at the tanks.
However, experts point out that jet fuel is difficult to ignite and that there was no danger to flights or passengers. The tanks have now been repaired.
