The measure, first introduced in July 2015, means UK passport holders can make single entry visits for up to 15 days without purchasing a visa until June 30 2018.
The waiver programme also applies to French, German, Spanish and Italian nationals.
The Vietnamese government introduced the scheme to boost tourism and there is firm evidence that it has worked. In the first five months of 2017, more than five million people visited the country, a year-on-year increase of 26.8%.
Travel and tourism currently accounts for 4.6% of Vietnam’s GDP, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council, which estimates that this figure will rise sharply to 7.5% this year.
