The tourism body’s $76 million budget has been reinstated after Florida governor Rick Scott blocked an attempt last month to slash funds to just $25 million.
In a statement, he said the cash would enable Visit Florida “to continue to market Florida as a premier vacation destination worldwide”.
Visit Florida had attracted criticism that it did not provide value for taxpayers. It drew particular opposition for paying rapper Pitbull to promote what is mainly a family holiday destination, leading to the resignation of Visit Florida’s chief executive at the start of the year.
Scott said his decision to overrule Florida’s representatives “builds on added transparency and accountability reforms at the organization.”
