Casa Gangotena Restaurant, located within the 31-key boutique hotel overlooking Quito's historic Plaza San Francisco, has been added to the prestigious World's 50 Best Discovery list, further cementing Ecuador's growing reputation as one of South America's emerging culinary destinations
Led by Executive Chef José Tamayo, the restaurant showcases cocina mestiza, celebrating the flavours, ingredients and traditions of Ecuador's four distinct regions: the Andes, Amazon, Pacific Coast and Galapagos Islands. Signature dishes include smoked shrimp ceviche with watermelon and tonka bean, line-caught tangerine cuttlefish with fried yucca puree and plantain, and a refined take on traditional duck stew with crispy confit duck leg and chocolate-infused rice.
Occupying a historic site on Plaza San Francisco with origins dating back to the 17th century, Casa Gangotena combines Ecuadorian heritage with contemporary hospitality, offering guests an ideal base from which to explore the UNESCO-listed capital.
The accolade sees Casa Gangotena join fellow Ecuadorian restaurants Nuema and Somos on the World's 50 Best Discovery list, recognising exceptional dining destinations from around the globe.
